SEND Services in Hammersmith and Fulham

LondonLondon Borough
Council website

In the bustling urban heart of west London, SEND support in Hammersmith and Fulham offers families a dedicated range of services tailored to the area's diverse needs, including ongoing efforts to expand local places for children with social, emotional and mental health challenges, where demand is rising faster than in many neighbouring boroughs. As a compact London borough, it benefits from strong independent and alternative provisions like Westside School, helping to keep more pupils educated close to home despite pressures from high out-of-borough placements. You're not alone in navigating this - reach out to the H&F SEND Information and Advice Support Service for impartial guidance every step of the way.

Whether you're navigating rising demand for mental health support or managing the complexities of an out-of-borough placement, JakTrack helps you build a clear picture of your child's needs without the evening paperwork. By capturing everyday moments - how they're sleeping, eating, managing their emotions - you'll have 90 days of organised evidence ready for your next EHCP review or benefit assessment, so you can walk into meetings feeling prepared and in control. Starting early means the evidence builds naturally as you go, taking the pressure off and giving you one less thing to worry about while you're already juggling so much. see how JakTrack can help

Understanding school SEND provision

Schools in England provide SEND support at different levels. Here's what each type means:

Specialist School

A school that exclusively educates children with SEND. Smaller classes (typically 6-12 pupils), staff trained in specific needs, and environments designed for children who need more support than mainstream can provide. Places are usually named in an EHCP.

SEN Unit

A dedicated unit within a mainstream school, staffed by specialists. Children are on the roll of the unit but may join mainstream classes for some lessons. Offers a middle ground - specialist support with mainstream social opportunities. Usually requires an EHCP.

Resource Base

Extra resourced provision attached to a mainstream school. Children are on the mainstream roll but can access additional support, equipment, and specialist staff. Some resource bases focus on specific needs like autism or speech and language.

SEN Support (Mainstream)

Every mainstream school has a legal duty to identify and support children with SEND. This includes having a SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator), providing reasonable adjustments, and putting in place SEN Support plans. You don't need an EHCP for SEN Support.
